How do I properly winterize my pool?

Lower the water level 4–6 inches below the skimmer opening to prevent freeze cracks. Drain the pump and filter completely, blow out the lines, and plug return jets and skimmer holes with rubber winter plugs (not plastic ones). Secure the winter cover tightly with a cable and winch, not bungee cords, and use a cover pump to prevent sagging.
