How do I EQ a vocal to reduce muddiness without losing its lo-fi character?

Start with a high-pass filter at 100 Hz to cut stage rumble and mic thumps. Then cut 3–6 dB around 250–400 Hz with a wide Q (0.7 or so), aiming at 300 Hz first—this keeps it musical instead of hollow. If still muddy, add a narrow notch around 200 Hz for bad room energy, but don’t overdo it. Skip boosting highs; clearing low-mid gunk lets the air come through naturally.
