How do I adjust total alkalinity in a saltwater pool?
Use a reliable drop-test kit like the Taylor K-2006 to measure TA. Target 80–120 ppm. To raise it, add sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) — about 1.5 pounds per 10,000 gallons to increase TA by 10 ppm, dissolved in a bucket of water first. To lower it, use muriatic acid slowly, then aerate. Fix alkalinity before adjusting pH, wait 24 hours, and retest.
