How did The Wailers end up signing with Island Records?

After a UK tour with Johnny Nash, The Wailers couldn’t afford to return to Jamaica. Their road manager Brent Clarke got Island Records founder Chris Blackwell to advance them money for an album, which they used to pay their fares home. They recorded tracks in Kingston, and Marley brought the tapes to London for Blackwell to rework.
