How can I tell if my refrigerator or freezer door gasket is bad?

Close a dollar bill in the door and try to pull it out. If it slides out with almost no resistance, the gasket isn’t sealing. Also check for visible cracks, warping, mold, condensation near the seal, or a noticeable draft around the gasket. A bad gasket makes the compressor work harder and ice melt faster.
