How can I tell if my pool pump motor is dead?

If you hear a loud hum but the motor doesn’t spin, the start capacitor or motor itself is shot. Other signs: it trips the breaker immediately, water leaks from the housing, grinding or screeching noises, or it runs hot enough to burn your hand after five minutes. A humming, locked-up motor is usually cheaper to replace than repair.
