How can I check an extension cord for internal breaks without a multimeter?

Plug in a working lamp or small appliance, then slowly bend the cord along its length while watching for flickering — that’s a “flex test.” It finds obvious breaks but misses partial ones and won’t detect overheating. If the cord is old, frayed, or warm during use, just replace it.
