ECC RAM vs non-ECC RAM for home NAS: Non-ECC is fine for most home setups
Non-ECC RAM with ZFS is safe for home NAS use—the risk of a flipped bit corrupting data is astronomically rare. Your drives or cat are bigger threats. Spend the money on more drives or a UPS instead. ECC matters only for multiple VMs, databases, or production workloads. If the price difference is small, go ECC; otherwise, don’t worry.
