Yes, especially on unfinished or lightly finished wood. The rubber contains oils and plasticizers that leach out under heat and pressure, leaving a permanent mark. Dark rubber on light wood is the worst offender. Put a piece of craft paper or thin cloth under the mousepad, or buy one without a rubber bottom.
