Can I use dry ice in a regular cooler?

Yes, but you need to be smart about it. Dry ice is -109°F and can crack cheap plastic coolers from temperature shock. Leave the drain plug open or crack the lid slightly to vent CO2 gas, and wrap dry ice in newspaper or a towel away from food and cooler walls. A rotomolded cooler handles the cold better, but always give gas an escape route.
