Can I use an extension cord with an EV charger?
I wouldn’t. Most EV manufacturers warn against it because EV chargers pull high amperage for hours, risking overheating or fire. If you must (temporary, Level 1 only), use a 10-gauge cord (12-gauge for Level 1 at 12A max), keep it under 25 feet, outdoor-rated, 100% copper, and plugged into a GFCI outlet. Check cord temperature after 30 minutes—if warm, stop. Better option: install a proper charger or move the outlet.
