Can I just swap in ECC RAM to any computer?

No. ECC RAM requires a compatible motherboard and CPU. Most consumer systems (Intel Core, AMD Ryzen non-Pro) don’t support it or run it in non-ECC mode. You typically need a server-class CPU and workstation motherboard. Check your motherboard QVL and CPU specs before buying.
