Can I bury an extension cord temporarily if I use a waterproof cover?

No. Extension cords aren’t rated for direct burial — moisture will eventually seep in, corrode connections, and create a fire or shock hazard. For temporary use, run the cord on top of the ground and tape connections with electrical tape. For anything longer, use UF cable or direct-burial-rated wire with waterproof splice kits.
