Can I bury an extension cord for landscape lighting?

No. Even a “heavy duty” outdoor extension cord isn’t rated for direct burial. Moisture, ground pressure, and critters will turn it into a fire hazard or tripped breaker within a season. Use UF (Underground Feeder) cable rated for direct burial instead. For truly temporary use, run the cord on top of the ground and tape connections — don’t bury it.
