Flat extension cords are safe if they’re the right gauge for the job. They’re usually designed for light-duty use (lamps, phone chargers) with thinner wire (16 or 18 gauge). The real risk is using a cord too thin for the device—a flat cord running a space heater will overheat. Buy the right gauge, not the right shape.
