8 Steps to Vacuum a Pool on the Waste Setting
- Turn off the pump before changing any valve settings.
- Set the multiport valve to the “waste” position instead of “filter.”
- Attach the vacuum head and hose, then fill the hose with water to purge air.
- Connect the hose to the skimmer using a vacuum plate or dedicated line.
- Turn the pump back on.
- Vacuum slowly to avoid stirring up dirt and debris.
- Watch the water level closely — it drops fast because you are sending water out the waste line.
- Stop before the skimmer sucks air or the pump runs dry.
