6 Things to Know About Temple of the Dog

Temple of the Dog was a one-off collaboration between Soundgarden and Mother Love Bone members. The band formed in 1990 as a tribute to Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, who died of a heroin overdose.

Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron from Soundgarden were the core musicians. Cornell wrote the lyrics and sang lead, while Cameron played drums.

Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament from Mother Love Bone played guitar and bass. They had been Wood’s bandmates and were still grieving his death.

Mike McCready joined on lead guitar. He was a friend of the group and later became a Pearl Jam member.

Eddie Vedder sang backing vocals on several tracks. He was a new acquaintance of Gossard and Ament, and his contributions helped launch his career.

The band released only one album, their self-titled 1991 debut. It was a commercial flop at first but gained cult status after Pearl Jam’s success.
