6 Things to Know About Mike Patton Fronting Mr. Bungle and Faith No More

Mike Patton was the lead vocalist for both Mr. Bungle and Faith No More at the same time. He joined Faith No More in 1988 while Mr. Bungle was still active.

Mr. Bungle formed first, in 1985, as a high school project. Patton’s primary creative outlet was Mr. Bungle, which allowed more experimental music.

Faith No More’s breakthrough album, The Real Thing, came out in 1989. Patton’s vocal range and theatrical style became a signature for both bands.

Patton balanced both bands by touring and recording with Faith No More while writing and performing with Mr. Bungle. He often described Mr. Bungle as his main artistic focus.

Mr. Bungle’s music was more eclectic, mixing funk, metal, ska, and avant-garde. Faith No More leaned toward alternative metal and rock.
