6 Steps for Starting Herb Seeds Indoors
Count back six weeks from your area’s average last frost date. That is the right time to start seeds indoors.
Choose herbs like basil, parsley, chives, oregano, or mint. They all grow reliably from seed.
Use small pots with drainage holes. Fill them with seed-starting mix, not garden soil, which is too heavy.
Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Overwatering can rot seeds.
Place pots in the sunniest window you have. A south-facing window is best.
If you lack good natural light, use a cheap grow light. Run it for 12 to 16 hours a day.
