5 Things to Know About the Dell XPS 8940’s RAM

The XPS 8940 supports up to 128GB of DDR4-2933 memory across four DIMM slots. That’s double the capacity of its predecessor.

This is workstation-class RAM capacity in a consumer tower. It’s overkill for gaming but ideal for memory-intensive tasks like video editing or virtual machines.

You must use DDR4-2933 modules to reach the full 128GB. Slower or faster RAM may not work at the rated speed.

All four slots must be populated with 32GB modules to hit 128GB. Two 64GB sticks are not supported.

If you need high memory capacity in a Dell desktop, this model is the one to buy. Older XPS towers top out at 64GB.
