5 Things to Know About the 2015 27-Inch iMac and Optical Drives
The 2015 27-inch iMac has no built-in optical drive. Apple removed it entirely from this generation.
To read CDs or DVDs, you must use an external USB drive. There is no internal option or adapter.
Any standard USB external optical drive will work. You don’t need an Apple-specific model.
The iMac’s USB ports are USB 3.0, so the drive will run at full speed. Older USB 2.0 drives also work but will be slower.
If you rarely use discs, skip the external drive. Most software and media are now digital downloads.
