SPF only measures UVB protection, not UVA. UVA protection is rated separately with PA+ to PA++++ or the Boots star rating.

Broad spectrum means the sunscreen covers both UVA and UVB. But the minimum UVA protection required for that label is low.

For the best UVA blocking, look for PA++++ or a UVA circle on EU bottles. Asian and European markets have stricter UVA standards than the US.

Do not rely on “broad spectrum” alone on a drugstore bottle. If it only says that with no PA rating or UVA symbol, it is likely the bare minimum.

Consistent application matters more than chasing the perfect UVA ratio. SPF 50+ with broad spectrum from a trusted brand is the safest bet.
