5 Things to Know About Robot Vacuums on Tile and Low-Pile Carpet
Most modern robot vacuums automatically transition between tile and low-pile carpet without manual help. They use drop sensors and cliff sensors to detect the surface change.
The robot ramps up suction on carpet and backs off on hard floors. This is standard on all but the cheapest models.
Height difference is rarely a problem. Low-pile carpet is thin enough that normal wheels roll over the edge without getting stuck.
Avoid thick shag or high-pile rugs. Those can trap or stall a robot vacuum, but tile to low-pile is a safe combination.
