5 Things to Know About RAM for Cities: Skylines and Minecraft

  1. 32GB RAM is worth it for modded Cities: Skylines, but overkill for vanilla Minecraft. Cities: Skylines is a memory hog. Once your city hits 100,000 citizens with mods, 16GB fills up fast.

  2. RAM shortage causes stutter in Cities: Skylines, not your CPU or GPU. When RAM runs out, Windows swaps to disk, which creates lag. 32GB gives the game breathing room.

  3. Vanilla Minecraft uses only 1-2GB of RAM. 16GB is more than enough for shaders and a few mods.

  4. Only upgrade to 32GB for Minecraft if you run massive modpacks or pre-generate huge worlds. Otherwise, the extra RAM sits unused.

  5. For vanilla Cities: Skylines, 16GB may still suffice, but mods quickly demand more. If you plan to use mods, skip 16GB and go straight to 32GB.
