A warm cord means you are pulling too much current for its gauge, or the cord is damaged. Either way, the insulation is degrading and a fire risk is present.
Extension cords should never feel above room temperature when in use. Heat comes from electrical resistance caused by thin wire, loose connections, or internal damage.
That heat cooks the insulation, which can melt, short, and ignite nearby materials. Do not keep using the cord hoping it will be fine.
Unplug it and swap for a heavier gauge cord (lower AWG number) or reduce the load. If it stays warm with a lighter load, the cord is faulty and must be replaced.
