5 Things to Check in CPU-Z for RAM Compatibility

  1. Open the SPD tab and select a slot to see your module’s exact type, speed, timings, voltage, and rank. This is your target for matching.

  2. Match the module type and speed exactly. Mixing DDR4 and DDR5 won’t work, and mismatched speeds will downclock both sticks.

  3. Match or use looser timings. Tighter timings than your existing stick can cause instability.

  4. Match the voltage. A 1.2V stick paired with a 1.35V stick may not work unless your motherboard handles the difference.

  5. Check the Memory tab for current channel mode. If it’s already dual-channel, adding a mismatched stick will likely drop it to single-channel and hurt performance. For best results, match the rank (single or dual) too.
