5 Steps to Test Your Pool for Leaks With a Bucket
Fill a bucket with pool water to about an inch from the rim Set the bucket on the top step or a ledge so the water levels in the bucket and the pool are the same.
Mark both water levels Use a marker or tape to note the water height inside the bucket and on the pool wall.
Run your pump as usual for 24 hours Avoid heavy rain during the test. A calm, dry day gives the most accurate results.
Compare the water levels after 24 hours If the pool level dropped more than the bucket level, you have a leak. If they dropped the same, it’s evaporation.
Check for obvious leak sources Look for cracks, loose fittings, or a constantly running autofill. Fixing a slow leak early saves chemistry headaches and water bills.
