5 Steps to Temporarily Splice a Cut Extension Cord

Cut the cord cleanly on both sides of the damage. Strip about a half-inch of insulation off each wire.

Match and twist the same-colored wires together. Black to black, white to white, and ground to ground.

Wrap each individual splice tightly with electrical tape. Ensure no bare wire is exposed.

Wrap the entire repaired section with more electrical tape. This adds insulation and strength.

Replace the cord as soon as possible. This splice is only a temporary fix, not a permanent repair.
