5 Steps to Store Your Beach Umbrella Properly

Rinse the fabric with fresh water Hose down the umbrella after your last beach trip to remove salt and sand. If you see mildew, scrub with mild soap and rinse well.

Dry the fabric completely in the sun Open the umbrella fully or drape it until bone-dry. Never fold and pack it wet, or you will get musty, spotted fabric by next summer.

Rinse and dry the pole Remove all sand and salt from the metal pole, then dry it with a towel. This prevents rust and corrosion.

Treat rust and lubricate the pole If you see rust spots, apply WD-40 or a rust remover. Then lightly oil the pole with silicone lubricant or even cooking oil to keep rust away.

Store in a breathable bag off the floor Use a canvas or mesh bag, not plastic, to let air circulate. In a garage or shed, keep the umbrella off the concrete floor to avoid moisture damage.
