5 Steps to Store a Humidifier Properly

Empty all leftover water from the tank and base. Any standing water left inside will grow mold and bacteria over the summer.

Fill the tank with a 50/50 white vinegar and water mixture. Let it sit for 30 minutes, then run the humidifier in a well-ventilated room for about an hour. This breaks down mineral scale and kills gunk.

Rinse every part thoroughly with fresh water. Make sure no vinegar residue remains.

Disassemble and dry every piece completely. Remove the tank, filter, and any removable parts. Leave everything on a towel for 24 to 48 hours. Any trapped moisture will grow mold by next season.

Store the humidifier in its original box or a clean plastic bin in a cool, dry place. Avoid damp basements or uninsulated garages. A dry, stable environment keeps it ready for next winter.
