5 Steps to Fix a Leaking Pool Light Niche Without Draining

Turn off the breaker to the pool light before doing anything else. Safety is non-negotiable when working with underwater electricity.

Clean the leak area with a stainless steel brush or scrubbing pad while submerged. Remove all calcium buildup and debris so the epoxy can bond properly.

Rub the surface dry with a rag. You will not get it bone dry underwater, but removing excess moisture helps the epoxy stick.

Knead an underwater epoxy putty like AquaMend or JB WaterWeld, then press it deep into the gap around the conduit entrance, light ring, or cable entry. Smooth it with a wet finger.

Let the epoxy cure for 12 to 24 hours before turning the light back on. This fix works for hairline cracks, bad sealant, or loose conduit fittings, but not for major leaks losing an inch of water per day.
