5 Steps to Clear Cloudy Pool Water

Test and balance water chemistry first pH should be 7.4–7.6, total alkalinity 80–120 ppm, and calcium hardness in range. Adding shock to unbalanced water wastes chemicals and won’t clear the cloudiness.

Shock the pool after balancing Use a good chlorine or non-chlorine shock. Run the pump 24/7 immediately after shocking to circulate and filter the water.

Clean or backwash the filter regularly A dirty filter can’t catch particles. Brush the walls and vacuum when possible to remove debris and algae.

Be patient — filtration takes time The filter needs days to catch fine particles. Patience is the real chemical here.

Use a clarifier or flocculant if still cloudy after two days Start with simple steps first. Clarifiers and flocculants are backups, not shortcuts.
