5 Reasons Not to Use Indoor Extension Cords Outside

  1. Indoor cords aren’t built for moisture They lack the sealed insulation needed to block water. Even a taped connection won’t stop moisture from seeping in through cracks in the cord or plug.

  2. Electrical tape fails fast outdoors Heat, cold, and UV rays turn tape into a sticky, useless mess within weeks. It does not create a waterproof seal.

  3. Water leads to shorts, shocks, or fires Once moisture reaches the copper wire, the risk of a short circuit, electric shock, or fire is real. The National Electrical Code exists for this reason.
