5 Reasons Not to Use an Extension Cord With a Dimmer Switch

  1. Dimmer switches need a clean electrical load Extension cords add resistance that interferes with the dimmer’s ability to sense the load, causing flickering, poor dimming range, or total failure.

  2. Most extension cords lack a neutral wire Many dimmers require a neutral wire to function properly. Standard extension cords don’t have one, risking voltage drops or shorts.
