5 Pool Chemical Safety Rules to Follow

  1. Always add chemicals to water, never water to chemicals Pouring water into concentrated chemical can cause a violent splash or fume cloud. Slowly add the chemical to a bucket of water if pre-dissolving, or directly into the pool.

  2. Keep the pump running when adding chemicals Turn on circulation before adding anything. This helps distribute the chemical evenly and prevents damage to pool surfaces.

  3. Add chemicals near a return jet Pour the chemical gradually near a return jet for proper mixing. This avoids high concentrations settling on the pool floor or walls.

  4. Wait 15–30 minutes between adding different chemicals Test or add another chemical only after this waiting period. Adding chemicals too quickly can cause unwanted reactions or cloudiness.

  5. Never mix different chemicals together beforehand Mixing chemicals directly, even to save time, can cause dangerous reactions. Always add each chemical separately to the pool water.
