Wildside peaked at number 43 on the Billboard 200 chart. It was a commercial disappointment compared to their multiplatinum albums from the early 1980s.

The lead single, “Notorious,” reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was the band’s last top 40 hit.

Scott Smith’s departure ended the original lineup that had recorded four studio albums together. He was replaced by Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve for subsequent tours and recordings.
