5 Facts About Klaus Dinger's Role in Kraftwerk and Neu!

Dinger played drums on Kraftwerk’s 1970 debut album, “Kraftwerk.” He joined briefly after answering an ad, but left soon after due to creative disagreements with Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider.

He co-founded Neu! with Michael Rother, another Kraftwerk defector. The duo formed the band in 1971, directly after leaving Kraftwerk.

Neu! pioneered the “motorik” beat, a steady, driving 4/4 rhythm. Dinger’s drumming on tracks like “Hallogallo” defined this sound, which influenced countless later artists.

Dinger’s tenure in Kraftwerk was short but historically significant. His departure led directly to the creation of Neu!, which became a foundational krautrock band.

He later formed other influential bands, including La Düsseldorf. After Neu! disbanded, Dinger continued to shape German experimental rock with his own projects.
