The iconic riff was lifted from the 1962 Muddy Waters song “You Need Love.” Led Zeppelin did not credit Willie Dixon, leading to a later lawsuit and settlement.

The recording features a theremin solo by Page, creating the song’s psychedelic middle section. This was a rare use of the instrument in hard rock.
