5 Beach Games That Actually Work in Soft Sand

  1. Paddleball The ball doesn’t roll away in sand, and the paddles are light and pack flat.

  2. Frisbee Frisbees float if they land in water, need minimal space to toss, and survive salt and sand better than most alternatives.

  3. Whiffle ball and plastic bat This combo is lighter than wood, works in loose sand, and packs small.

  4. Kite Kites work well if there’s wind, but they’re fiddlier to pack than paddleball or frisbee.

  5. Avoid anything needing a flat surface or hard bounce Badminton nets, bocce ball, volleyball, and Spikeball all struggle in soft sand. Stick to the two or three games above.
