4 Things to Know About Swimming After Algaecide
Wait 15 to 30 minutes for standard algaecides Most pool algaecides disperse quickly and dilute to safe levels within 15 to 30 minutes. That’s enough time for the chemical to mix in.
Check the label for concentrated formulas Heavy-duty or concentrated algaecides may require up to 24 hours before swimming. Read the label — it’s not optional.
Run the pump to circulate the water first The bigger risk is swimming before the algaecide has circulated. Turn the pump on and wait at least 15 minutes.
Adjust wait time if you added chlorine or shock If you added chlorine or shock treatment at the same time, wait until chlorine levels drop to 1–3 ppm. That takes longer than algaecide alone.
