4 Things to Know About Pool Clarifier vs. Flocculant

  1. Clarifier is for daily maintenance; flocculant is for emergencies. Use clarifier when your pool water is slightly hazy. Use flocculant when your water looks like pea soup and you need to clear it in a day.

  2. Flocculant requires manual vacuuming; clarifier does not. With flocculant, you must turn off the filter, add it, wait for particles to sink, then vacuum them manually. Clarifier lets you dump it in and let the filter run.

  3. Clarifier works with all filter types; flocculant does not. Flocculant only works with sand or DE filters, not cartridge filters. Clarifier works with all types.

  4. Neither works if your pool chemistry is off. Always check pH and alkalinity first before adding either product.
