4 Things to Know About Cold Weather Pool Heat Pumps
Clean the condenser coils monthly Dirty coils are the number one killer of efficiency. Hose them down once a month during heating season to avoid higher electricity costs.
Check and clean the filter regularly A dirty filter makes the pump work harder and reduces water flow to the heat pump. Rinse or backwash it often.
Keep water moving in freezing temps If temperatures drop below freezing, run the pump enough to prevent the heat pump from freezing solid. Use the built-in freeze protection mode if available.
Drain properly before winter shutdown If you shut the system down for winter, drain the heat pump correctly. Otherwise, the internal heat exchanger can crack.
