Check the pump lid o-ring first A loose or dried-out o-ring on the pump lid is the most common cause of cavitation. Replace it if cracked or worn, and lubricate it with silicone.

Inspect the skimmer and water level Low water lets air into the suction line. Make sure the water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening and the weir door moves freely.

Look for cracks in the suction pipe A crack between the skimmer and pump intake pulls in air. Listen for a whistling sound along the pipe or have a smoke test done.

Clean the pump basket and lid Debris under the lid seal or a dirty basket can cause air leaks. Clean both and ensure the lid is tight and seated properly.
