4 Steps to Winterize an Above-Ground Pool in a Mild Climate
Clean and balance the water Thoroughly clean the pool, then balance pH and alkalinity. Add a winterizing algaecide.
Lower the water level slightly Drain water to just below the skimmer opening. You do not need to drain half the pool.
Cover the pool Use a good winter cover that keeps leaves and dirt out. Hard freezes are unlikely, so heavy-duty winterizing is unnecessary.
Protect exposed pipes if frost is possible If you get occasional frosts, drain or blow out exposed pipes. If winters stay above freezing, leave the pump and filter running on a timer a few hours daily to keep water moving.
