4 Steps to Winterize a Saltwater Chlorinator
Remove the cell from the housing Pull the cell out of the plumbing to prevent freezing damage and buildup over winter.
Clean calcium deposits if present Soak the cell in diluted acid or use a dedicated cleaning stand to remove scale. A quick clean now saves work in spring.
Store the cell in a dry, frost-free location Keep it in your garage or basement where temperatures stay above freezing. Do not leave it outside.
Drain or isolate the piping Close bypass valves if installed, or drain the lines so no water sits in the cell housing. Standing water can freeze and crack the system.
