Set your multimeter to continuity mode Turn the dial to the continuity setting, which usually looks like a sound wave symbol or the lowest resistance setting.

Access both ends of the cord You need to reach the prongs on the plug and the slots in the socket. Do not plug the cord into a wall outlet.

Test each conductor separately Place one probe on a prong and the other on the corresponding slot on the same wire. If the multimeter beeps, that wire is continuous. No beep means a broken conductor.
