4 Steps to Protect Your Pump and Filter From Freeze Damage
Drain all water from the pump and filter Remove the drain plugs and tilt the pump to empty it completely. Open the air bleed valve on the filter to let water escape.
Let everything dry upside down for a day After draining, set the pump and filter upside down so any remaining water drips out. Residual water in low spots can freeze and crack the housing.
Store them indoors above freezing Bring both into a garage or basement where temperatures stay above freezing. This is the only way to guarantee no freeze damage.
If you must leave them outside, cover and open all ports Use a tarp for protection and make sure all drain plugs and valves are open so condensation can drain. But this is risky—freeze damage is common even after draining.
