4 Steps to Properly Dry and Store an Umbrella
Shake off all sand Sand traps moisture against the metal frame and can scratch the finish. Remove it thoroughly before doing anything else.
Rinse saltwater umbrellas with fresh water Salt crystals accelerate rust. If you used the umbrella at a beach, spray the pole and fabric with a garden hose to wash away salt.
Dry the umbrella completely in open air Open the umbrella and let it air out in direct sun for at least one hour, or overnight in a dry garage. Do not store it while damp.
Never store a wet umbrella Moisture causes both mold on the fabric and rust on the metal frame. Only put the umbrella away when it is bone-dry.
