4 Steps to Patch a Vinyl Pool Liner Leak Yourself

Find the leak with the pump off Look for bubbles rising from the liner. If you see nothing, use leak detection dye and watch where it gets sucked toward the liner. Mark the spot with tape or a floating object.

Use a patch kit from the pool store Buy a kit with adhesive and a vinyl patch. Cut the patch into a circle with rounded corners—sharp corners peel off faster.

Clean and apply underwater Scrub the area with a pad. Apply adhesive to the patch per the instructions, press it firmly over the leak, and hold for 30 to 60 seconds.

Let it cure for 24 hours Do not run the pump during that time. This works for pinholes or tears under an inch. For seam leaks or gashes longer than a few inches, call a pro.
