4 Steps to Fix a Pool Skimmer Leak With Epoxy Putty

  1. Drain the water a few inches below the crack. The leak is usually where the tile meets the plastic skimmer mouth, so lower the water level to expose the damaged area.

  2. Clean the area with a wire brush and pool acid. Use diluted muriatic acid to remove calcium or old sealant, then rinse and let it dry completely.

  3. Mix a two-part epoxy pool putty and press it into the crack. Smooth it out so it bonds like stone, then let it cure for 24 hours before refilling the pool.

  4. Check the faceplate if the crack is on the outer rim. Remove the faceplate, clean the gasket, reapply silicone, and tighten screws evenly. A loose faceplate often causes air or water leaks.
